Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company Releases New Civil Unrest & Riot Prep Toolkit

Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company has recently released a robust toolkit designed specifically for our members. This toolkit equips businesses with the necessary tools and knowledge to fortify themselves against the potential damage and loss caused by civil unrest and riots, empowering them to face these challenges with confidence.

According to international risk watchdogs, 2024 has the potential to be a very turbulent year, with elections taking place in more than 70 countries worldwide. This, combined with steadily increasing inflation and global conflicts, has driven up civil unrest potential back up to the high levels of 2021 following the death of George Floyd. In mid-2020, 20 states across the U.S. experienced demonstrations, which in many places devolved into riots, looting, and arson, leading to $1-$2 billion in insurance claims.

While these tensions are being felt in the U.S., diligent business owners are taking steps to prepare their businesses for the worst case scenario in terms of demonstrations, riots, and unrest in the months and years to come. From fortifying their properties, to increasing security measures and response plans, businesses know they must act now to prevent loss and business-threatening damage if trouble erupts in their local communities.

As a nationally recognized leader in insurance and risk management, Pharmacists Mutual takes extra measures to ensure its members are educated and equipped with the information needed to prevent loss and protect their livelihood. With over a century of experience insuring professionals, Pharmacists Mutual has used its expertise to create a helpful online Risk Management Center to house its resource library, online training tools, and more.

The latest addition to our comprehensive resource library is the Civil Unrest/Riot Toolkit. This resource includes recommendations for securing physical properties, preparation checklists, preparedness assessment tools, and risk mitigation best practices. The toolkit includes recommendations on the latest programs and technologies available to support preparation efforts.

For example, NGS’ pharmacist security program offers discounts on field-proven security retrofit products for glass windows and doors from 3M and Riot Glass. Additionally, 3SI’s PharmaTracker device detects motion and uses GPS, cell, and radio frequency to automatically and silently notify law enforcement that a burglary or robbery has occurred. These and other included technologies featured in the new toolkit often include a special discount for Pharmacists Mutual members and collect data that can streamline a claims process if and when an event occurs.

The full toolkit is available for free to Pharmacists Mutual members by requesting a copy at riskmgmt@Phmic.com.
