How to Thwart Potential Burglars from Entering Through the Back Door

While you’ve probably already considered how to make your pharmacy or retail location less attractive to burglars — by strengthening your windows, optimizing your alarms and cameras, and adding more external lighting, for example — you may be overlooking a key vulnerability in your physical security system: your building’s back door.

Back doors are often obscured from the view of the general public, are more accessible to vehicles that can ram or damage them, and offer faster get-aways for criminals. Additionally, fire codes make it challenging for companies to reinforce their back doors in traditional ways.

In light of these challenges, retail owners can utilize innovative solutions to increase the security of back doors. For example, Securitech has developed a super-resistant, stainless steel, multi-point locking system to reinforce back doors. The Trident modular door reinforcement system includes:

  • Four stainless steel deadbolts that project one full inch into the door frame, adding extra stability
  • Hinge-side bolt that protects the door against hinge-side attacks
  • Large, stainless steel anti-pry plate and vandal-resistant lever
  • Options for Self-relocking models to ensure your back door always remains locked, as well as manual relocking models
  • Options for integrating with your alarm system

As demonstrated in this video, the Trident-reinforced door withstood six collisions with the tailgate of a truck trying to reverse ram into a building. In the case of a potential burglary, a reinforced back door can buy law enforcement enough time to respond or even deter the robbery altogether.
